Addressing the Board

All regular board meetings are public meetings; however, a public meeting is not an open forum. Public participation is limited to the section of the agenda called "Audience Items." Complaints about individual employees must be addressed in Executive Session rather than the public portion of the meeting.

Patrons who ask to address the Board regarding a particular issue will be given a maximum of five minutes each, at the discretion of the Board President, to present a statement during one of the audience portions of the meeting.  The first Audience time is reserved for items that are on the agenda.  The second Audience time is reserved for topics that are not on the meeting's agenda.

By law, Board members are prohibited from entering into discussion with patrons during the Audience portion of the meeting. They may listen to a patron's statement, but they may not respond to a patron's questions or comments during the Board meeting.

Resolving Conflicts

Patrons who have a conflict with the school district should speak with the superintendent prior to a Board meeting. The steps in conflict resolution are to address the situation with Mesquite ISD administrators in the successive order shown below.
