Make a Difference in Dickinson

photo of truck in flood watersMesquite ISD is conducting a districtwide fundraising campaign for the staff and students of Dickinson ISD. Dickinson is a small community located between the cities of Houston and Galveston that closely mirrors our school district. The entire community was ravaged by the rains from Hurricane Harvey.

Dickinson ISD serves about 11,000 students, 62% of which are economically disadvantaged. Recovery will be difficult. As a smaller community, Dickinson will not have the support or resources that might be available in a larger city like Houston. We know that our efforts as a district and as a community can truly make a difference in the recovery efforts there.

What type of donations will be collected?
Mesquite ISD is strictly collecting funds through this particular campaign – not relief supplies.

At the end of the campaign, MISD will deliver a check to the Dickinson ISD superintendent to use at her discretion to benefit students and staff members needing immediate financial assistance. Dr. Vroonland has already been in contact with her, and Dickinson ISD is extremely grateful for our support.

How long does the campaign run?
Mesquite ISD will collect funds through Thursday, Sept. 14.

Are donations tax deductible?
Yes. Each campus/facility will have a person designated to collect donations. Each donor will receive a receipt and a thank-you letter.

Can we donate by credit card?
Yes, a link will be provided for credit card donations. More information will be posted here in a couple of days.

Who should checks be made payable to?
Please make all checks payable to Mesquite ISD and write “Dickinson ISD” on the memo line. There is a designated person at each campus who will accept your donation and provide a receipt.
